Rockin' The Round Robin: Early June Prep in San Diego for MS & HS Teams

To kick off the summer, our LA Wave Middle School and High School teams battled in the San Diego Round Robin tournament, taking the place of Summer Storm, which was cancelled last minute. This was Wave's first opportunity of the summer to compete and gel this summer. Both brackets were stacked with great competition; for two packed days of lacrosse both groups competed at the top tier. Despite schedule conflicts, the Wave Middle School squad remained focused and strong throughout the day, winning 3 straight games in a row back to back. The tempo was fast in the midfield and opponents were skilled in transition, but Wave held steady in the midfield with clutch draw taking by Morgan Wood and Nikki Romo-Zelada, being aided by our quick middies who keep possession with the Blue & White. JoJo DeLatrinidad was a wall in the cage all day long, as was the defense in front of her with great athleticism and discipline to create caused turnovers and propel fast breaks for our offense. A solid team effort all around for our first time out, job well done by everyone for the long day!

High School Mix and Open teams had the opportunity to air it out this weekend. On Saturday at Del Norte HS Stadium, Wave Mix players got their feet wet, battled and handled many good teams who were also kicking off the summer. Wave players showcased their hustle and determination, as well as their willingness to listen to coaches and put things from sidelines into the games right away. Excellent opportunity to learn on the job and compete. Draws and fast breaks were key to the pace we were able to set.

On Sunday, Wave HS Open players got their chance to compete in the top bracket. The team gained confidence and valuable experience taking on WCS Gold teams with several players coming off of CIF Championships. The pace was great. Wave HS Open also faced off in a fun SISTER GAME with SB Wave who played in their first tournament together. Bonding continued post game with a mean game of cards in the Wave circle. Thank you South Bay parents for providing snacks and tents. It was great for our girls to have a central location so Wave sisters could meet each other and hang out . Many thanks to Coach Janelle, for the post tournament ice cream for all the girls!!
